Raising money before the banquet
Common thought is: Raise most of the money before the banquet and the rest at the banquet, if you use 80/20 principle, then raise the rest at the banquet = celebration of last 20% raised.
Have “coffee” before hand with top tier – no pressure to give at banquet, thank you for giving
Don’t compare yourself to other areas by how much they raise at their banquet – if you get most of it beforehand, the dollar amount will seem less significant if you don’t raise a lot at the banquet.
What if top tier needs to bring in 50% - incentive to give more at banquet: get a donor that is willing to do a match gift – if you give, it will really be this amount (if you give $50, it will be matched to $100). Meet with donors before the banquet – relationship starts months before banquet.
Take good care of donors before the banquet to get what you need . use primary caller – person with the relationship.
